Passages Bamboo Urn Collection offers three designs: Traditional, Tribute, and Woven. These urns will not biodegrade until they are buried, making them ideal for keeping at home, in a columbarium or in a cemetery niche until you are ready to bury the urn.
Traditional Bamboo Urns are hand-crafted from 3/4” bamboo plywood which is a sustainable and rapidly renewable resource. This bamboo is plantation-grown and is not a species that is consumed by endangered Panda populations. Each urn features a Green certified and LEED-compliant (Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design) water-based finish. The base affixes with recycled steel screws. Traditional Bamboo Urns are made in the USA.
Tribute Bamboo Urns are hand-crafted from 1/2″ bamboo plywood and are a more economical option to our Traditional Bamboo Urns. The bamboo used to produce the urns is found commonly, and grows rapidly in mountain regions of China. It is widely used throughout Asia, but is not a species that is consumed by endangered Panda populations. Each urn features a natural water-based finish. The base affixes with steel screws and the urn loads from the bottom.
Woven Bamboo Urns are hand-crafted from bamboo sourced on farms in northern Bangladesh and feature a simple cotton interior lining. These urns ship knocked-down from Asia, and are reassembled here in the USA using a clever system of wooden pins, before being sent to our customers. They are a simple and inexpensive bamboo urn option.
Engraving is available on Traditional And Tribute Bamboo Urns. An engravable plaque is available with the Woven Bamboo Urn.
Passages® eco-friendly funeral products give families the opportunity to honor a loved one after their passing with a smaller environmental footprint. We believe that, especially when a person valued sustainability during their life, it is important to have the option for a greener end-of-life ritual. Whether a family chooses to bury or cremate, our caskets and carriers are dignified and suitable to do so in an eco-friendly manner. If cremation is chosen, our biodegradable urns offer a variety of options for ceremonies that return the cremated remains to the earth.
Passages suggests offering memorial trees as the perfect complement to any biodegradable urn or scattering tube. Whether it is planted where the cremated remains of a loved one are scattered or buried, or in your garden at home, the trees provide a lasting and living memorial. As part of The Natural Choice® Memorial Tree Program, a numbered certificate can be used to redeem a 12” tree sapling that is appropriate to your climate and guaranteed for a year to grow. Read more about the program and how it works.
Simply complete the form on our website, including your certificate number, and a tree will be mailed to the address you provide. Memorial trees are a wonderful way to remember a loved one that, if you choose, can grow from the same soil in which a loved one’s remains were laid to rest. Because families receive a sapling instead of seeds, the hardest part of the tree’s life has passed and there is no worry of a seed not germinating.
Each Passages adult casket comes with a free Memorial Tree Certificate that can be redeemed for a live tree.
Memorial Petals are also available and are a perfect addition to a burial at sea or other ceremonies.
